Rakugo -Traditional Japanese Comedy
Rakugo is a traditional Japanese storytelling art that developed as a popular entertainment among the common people in the 17th century. A storyteller dressed in kimono sits on a cushion on stage to tell a humorous story by playing several characters changing their tone and gestures, as well as acting out different extracts using only a folding fan and a simple cotton cloth as props. Many of the old tales are still popular today. Rakugo is also performed in English and gaining admirers abroad. Rakugo proves that the power of laughter is always popular and knows no boundaries.
